چکیده

We analyze the distribution of the interstellar matter in the environs of the Wolf-Rayet star LSS 3982 (= WR 85, WN6+OB?) linked to the optical ring nebula RCW 118. Our study is based on neutral hydrogen 21cm-line data belonging to the Southern Galactic Plane Survey (SGPS). The analysis of the Hi data allowed the identification of a neutral hydrogen in-terstellar bubble related to WR 85 and the 25 ′-diameter ring nebula RCW 118. The Hi bubble was detected at a systemic velocity of –21.5 km s −1 , corresponding to a kinematical distance of 2.8±1.1 kpc, compatible with the stellar distance. The neutral stucture is about 25 ′ in radius or 21±8 pc, and is expanding at 9±2 km s −1. The associated ionized and neutral masses amount to 3000 M ⊙. The CO emission distribution depicts a region lacking CO coincident in position and velocity with the Hi structure. The 9. ′ 3-diameter inner optical nebula appears to be related to the approaching part of the neutral atomic shell. The Hi void and shell are the neutral gas counterparts of the optical bubble and have very probably originated in the action of the strong stellar wind of the central star during the O-type and WR phases on the surrounding interstellar medium. The Hi bubble appears to be in the momentun conserving stage.

The Embedded Massive Star Forming Region RCW 38

RCW 38 is a uniquely young (<1 Myr), embedded (AV ∼ 10) stellar cluster surrounding a pair of early O stars (∼O5.5) and is one of the few regions within 2 kpc other than Orion to contain over 1000 members. X-ray and deep near-infrared observations reveal a dense cluster with over 200 X-ray sources and 400 infrared sources embedded in a diffuse hot plasma within a 1 pc diameter. The central O st...

Evolution of supernova remnants in the interstellar medium with a large-scale density gradient

The results of the 2D modelling of Supernova remnant (SNR) RCW 86 are given. Models of this remnant, which for the first time interpret the anisotropy of surface brightness as a result of the evolution of adiabatic SNR in the interstellar medium with a large-scale gradient of density, are considered. Estimations on the basic characteristics of RCW 86 and the surrounding medium which follow from...

The Southern Galactic Plane Survey: the Test Region

The Southern Galactic Plane Survey (SGPS) is a project to image the H i line emission and 1.4 GHz continuum in the fourth quadrant of the Milky Way at high resolution using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and the Parkes Radio Telescope. In this paper we describe the survey details and goals, present λ21-cm continuum data, and discuss H i absorption and emission characteristics of t...

Ring Nebulae around Massive Stars throughout the HR Diagram

Massive stars evolve across the HR diagram, losing mass along the way and forming a variety of ring nebulae. During the main sequence stage, the fast stellar wind sweeps up the ambient interstellar medium to form an interstellar bubble. After a massive star evolves into a red giant or a luminous blue variable, it loses mass copiously to form a circumstellar nebula. As it evolves further into a ...

M ar 1 99 9 The Interstellar Environment of Filled - Center Supernova Remnants III : The Crab Nebula

The H I environment of the Crab Nebula is investigated using 2.75 ′ and 9 ′ resolution data from (respectively) the DRAO Synthesis, and Effelsberg 100 m, radio telescopes. No clear evidence for an interaction between the Crab and the surrounding H I is found; the Crab probably lies within the boundaries of a large scale, low-density void in the H I distribution. The presence of a wind-blown H I...
